Birth2Work: Redefining Community Leadership!

For most, Leadership is viewed as a position of authority, responsible for providing direction and resources and making sure everyone is doing their job based upon their expectations.

It normally involves an exchange that the leadership has ownership for (in most cases money or a salary).

Community based leadership on the other hand, still has the same set of responsibilities about vision and futures state; but it tends to be a much harder action because  it can not rely on the power of dollars and cents, rather it must rely on getting people to see that the vision is the right one, so that they will want to engage and be involved because it is the "right thing to do".

So in the environment of community leadership, its first about bringing the participants together to align around a set of values, goals and objectives and ensuring that everyone is onboard and aligned before moving forward.

The second key element is ensuring that everyone is supportive of providing the resources (including their own personal time energy and enthusiasm) around a plan to carry that vision out, based on a set of shared values.

And that's really what the birth2work Community Stakeholder Leadership Model is about.

Most people, whether in business, the military and even elected officials, its all about the power and authority relationship with subordinates, where Community Stakeholder Leadership is about peer to peer relationships.
