The Six Steps are:

  1. Identify and attract stakeholder community leaders
  2. Agree on common language and a set of shared values
  3. Agree on a shared vision and measures of success
  4. Establish a plan including the stakeholder roles and responsibilities
  5. Agree on the resources, and source of those resources, to achieve the vision
  6. Establish and implement a management process for carrying out the plan

Integration of each step is coordinated by specially trained facilitators. Participants stay focused on planning for the future, not just fixing the past. Birth2Work facilitators regularly guide community stakeholder leaders on ways to integrate the action plans of multiples groups and organizations, leverage resources, and eventually drive to measurable, scalable, and sustained impact for that community. Whereas one community leadership team might need to focus on transforming the local economy following a major economic downturn, another may need to focus on increasing a technically skilled workforce to meet the needs of an industry or emerging new business. The possibilities for application of the Process are endless. And, because this is a process, not a standardized program, results are dynamic, ongoing and sustainable over time.
